Mahbubnagar: With the third phase of Haritha Haram set to be launched on July 12, the district administration has decided to plant more than 2 crore plants across the district. As part of this, District Collector Ronald Rose has urged all the people and public representatives of the district to become partners in the novel programme.

While interacting with the officials of various departments at the Revenue Meeting Hall in the Collectorate on Tuesday, the Collector sought the cooperation of all people including officials, politicians and particularly the youth and asked them to work hand-in-hand to bring a new revolution in the area of increasing green cover in the district.

“As planting 2 crore saplings is a huge task, we need the cooperation of every individual in the district. Already, 166 nurseries across the district have adequate number of plants. What we need now is a strategic planning. For this, we have already given targets to each department.

We have given a target of planting 1 crore Teak plants to 16 departments and 15 lakh Date Palm trees through societies and also giving the responsibility to safeguard the plants to the officials of the concerned departments,” informed the Collector.

The officials of Roads and Buildings (R&B) have been asked to prepare a comprehensive plan to plant about 4,000 plants along the national highways, state highways and other roads in the district. As part of the plan to develop greenery in the forest areas, barren lands, flat top hills and uncultivable lands, the district Forest department is planning to throw seed balls wherever possible.

The Collector also directed the officials to speed up the process of plantation and asked them to identify the plantation places like government offices, private offices and institutions, government lands, burial grounds, schools, colleges, flat top hills, along canals, bunds of lakes and ponds and even in the open places of households.

“We have already launched the ‘Prachara Ratham’ to promote and create awareness among the public in the villages about the importance of trees and responsibility to protect the environment. We are seeking everyone’s support in this novel programme,” said the Collector. K Venkateshwarlu, in-charge District Revenue Officer (DRO), Lalith Kumar, Chief Planning Officer, Gangireddy, District Forest Officer and others attended the meeting.
