Attacks on women have gone from bad to worse: TVV demands govt

​Khammam: The Telangana Vidhyarthi Vedika demanded the government to prevent the atrocities against women which have been happening very frequently in the state.

The representatives of TVV, led by Vedika’s district secretary Swathi, on Wednesday took out a rally from Mammillagudem to Lenin Nagar Chowrastha demanding the government to arrest the accused who gang-raped a degree second-year student and the filmed act. They also burnt an effigy of the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Swathi said that after Telangana came into existence, women thought that they too would get freedom to live happily. However, things have gone from bad to worse with many incidents of attacks and rapes on the rise than in the past, she pointed out.

“Shame on the Ministers who comment that girls are raped because of the dress they wear. Don’t they know that even a 5-year-old girl got raped? What kind of dress they want girls and women to wear?” she questioned.

“Is not the failure of the Police department that even after four days of the crime, the accused are roaming freely. Do they want to divert the case and dissolve it? What is the use of She Teams appointed by the department when a justice is not done to a girl student who had been gang-raped?” she asked.

Voicing similar view, the district president of the Chaitanya Mahila Sangham, Vijaya, demanded the government to impose ban on sites that exhibit sleazy content apart from introducing lessons in the school syllabi on how to respect women.

She warned of protests if government further delays arresting the accused involved in the gang rape incident. Vedika representatives Pavitra, Sunitha, Vijaya, Sri Charitha, Naga Raju, Rakesh and Premchand were present along with others.
