Khammam gang rape women, student bodies seek action against accused

​Khammam: Several political parties, women and students organisations condemned the gang rape of a degree second-year student of a private college by three of her classmates and demanded stringent action against the accused.

District secretary of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association, Ch Sitha Malakshmi demanded the police officials to immediately arrest the accused.

Voicing similar demand, the city secretary of the Communist Party of India S K Jani Miya alleged that the police officials were trying to divert the case instead of acting against the persons who raped the girl and filmed the act.

He sought the government to take stringent action against the three accused persons lest they take up protests along with the parents of girl. In Karimnagar, the leaders of various student unions staged a dharna here in front of Government Degree and PG College in Karimnagar on Tuesday in protest against the gang rape.

They alleged that many incidents of harassments, attacks, rapes and killing of women and girls were taking place across the state and the state government and the police department were not in a mood to take strict action to prevent such incidents. They demanded the government to take immediate action against the persons who gang raped the girl without any delay and protect the democracy in country.

The leaders of PDSU, TVV and DSU participated in the dharna.
