Karimnagar: As per the orders of the Election Commission of India, every citizen, who crossed 18 years of age must enroll his/her name in the voters list, advised District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed.

He participated in the Electoral Special Revision meeting here at the Collectorate conference hall on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said every year the Electoral Special Review meeting will be held from October to December. But due to some reasons the meeting was not organised last year, but was held from April to June in the district.

According to the survey, there are about 21,000 people in the age group of 18 to 19 years but only 3,924 persons enrolled their names in the voters list.

Hence a special drive will be organised to enroll the remaining people also, he said. The officials of the various departments, managements of various educational institutions and press reporters must cooperate in the voters enrolling programme in the district by creating awareness among the people, urged the Collector.

Necessary steps are taken to create awareness among the people on behalf of the government by giving wide publicity by pasting stickers and posters on autos and in buses, in shops and in every ration shop including villages along with writing slogans at places where there will be huge crowds, he informed.

District Revenue Officer Ayesha Masrath Qanam and Rural Development Officer Raja Goud attended the meeting along with others officials.
