Suryapet: District Collector K Surendra Mohan has sanctioned a modern laundry unit to a poor washerwoman, Ellutla Laxmamma (51), of Pillalamarri village in Suryapet Mandal.

The Collector sanctioned Rs 85,000 from the crucial balance fund to provide a washing machine with dryer, sump, iron box, table, electricity and water facility.

On Wednesday, the Collector along with the Mandal Parishad Development Officer, Nagi Reddy, examined the installation works of the laundry unit.

He interacted with Laxmamma and enquired about her acquaintance with the washing machine and other associated equipment by the training provided to her.

Thanking the Collector, Laxmamma exuded confidence that with the support of her son, she would run the laundry successfully and would clear all her debts.

Speaking to The Hans India, MPDO Nagi Reddy informed that Laxmamma, who has been earning her bread and butter through laundry, has called on the Collector during latter’s visit to her village.

She informed him that her husband had expired recently and she was unable to earn livelihood. She requested the Collector to sanction funds and help her set up a laundry shop.

After careful consideration, the district administration sanctioned Rs 85,000 to procure the laundry unit. The unit would be inaugurated by Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy soon.
