Khammam: The government is threatening people by deploying armed forces at the Khammam Agricultural Market, alleged district secretary of CPM Ponnam Venkateshwarlu.

Speaking to mediapersons at Sundarayya Bhavan in Khammam on Thursday, Venkateshwarlu, along with Yerra Srikanth, said that after Telangana became a reality, people of all sections thought that they could live happily without any agitations and movements. However, due to the negligent attitude of the ruling TRS party, many agitations and protests are seen across the State.

“The scene at the market yard is now akin to a war scene with armed forces guarding it. Several leaders of the ruling party are threatening people visiting the market,” he alleged.

Alleging that the ruling TRS party was trying to suppress the opposition parties by lodging false cases against them, he questioned that when the leaders of opposition parties clearly explained the benefits of shifting the market yard to Gurralapadu instead of Raghunathapalem, why the government was overhearing the appeals.

For the last three days, an emergency kind of atmosphere was created at the market with deployment of armed police forces, he criticised.

“When conducted open polling system, about 6,091 votes are polled to shift the market to Gurralapadu, and about 370 polled for shifting it to Raghunathapalem. What is the use of such kind of a government when it did not give any value of open polling system participated by people in a democratic country like India?” he questioned.

The government must take necessary steps to shift the market yard to Gurralapadu by removing the armed forces from the market immediately, he demanded.
