With an aim to speed up irrigation projects in the district, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, while reviewing the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Project works in Nagarkurnool district on Thursday, said the government was committed to complete all the major irrigation projects in the district and would irrigate 7-8 lakh acres by end of this year.

Mahbubnagar: With an aim to speed up irrigation projects in the district, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, while reviewing the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Project works in Nagarkurnool district on Thursday, said the government was committed to complete all the major irrigation projects in the district and would irrigate 7-8 lakh acres by end of this year.

To reach the set target in time, the Minister said he would review the progress of the works every 10 days. “Unlike earlier governments in united Andhra Pradesh whose works were just confined to paper and lip service, the Telangana is moving ahead with commitment and reviewing works from time to time.

In just six months, I have reviewed five major lift irrigation projects under Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation projects. By end of this year, we are planning to irrigate at least 3 lakh acres,” said Harish Rao, while inspecting the MGKLI and PRRLI works in Nagarkurnool.

As part of his inspection, the Minister first visited Marchala in Kalwakurthy mandal and Avancha in Timmajipet mandal to review the aqueduct works being undertaken as part of MGKLI project. Later, he inspected the Gudipally reservoir canal works in Nagarkurnool mandal and visited Kollapur to review the Ranga Reddy Palamuru Lift Irrigation Project works.

In the evening, Harish took part in a review meeting with Nagarkurnool District Collector and reviewed the progress of land acquisition under the MGKLI and PRRLI projects. While slamming the double standards of Congress leaders in Mahbubnagar, the Irrigation Minister said the people of united Mahbubnagar readily come forward to give their lands for the irrigation projects.

However, the leaders of the district, particularly the Congress party, were not having a clear vision and playing double game to fool the people. “On one hand, they are complaining of non-completion of projects, while on the other they are putting cases in the court to stall the ongoing works.

The Congress leaders are vision less and are not able to digest the good work done by the TRS government. Because of the court cases filed by them, irrigation projects in the district have been stalled for more than six months now. However, we have overcome all those problems and have brought a new land acquisition act, where by the land losers under irrigation project will be compensated adequately,” said the Minister.

Harish further informed that the government has spent Rs 1,000 crore for MGKLI project alone this year. While allaying the doubts of some people who expressed concern over diverting PRRLI water to Dindi project, the Minister said, Dindi project would get only 0.5 tmcft water, while the PRRLI project would be continuously given 1.5 tmcft water.
