Women take out their Mangalsutras for husbands long life

Mahbubnagar: While according to Hindu tradition, removing a Mangalsutra might spell a doom to the husband. But strangely, a rumour has been doing rounds the other way for the last two days with many women, especially in rural areas of the erstwhile Mahbubnagar, taking away their Mangalsutras for three consecutive days only to protect their husbands from evil spirits.

The rumour has gone viral in many villages of Jogulamba-Gadwal district, especially those of Gattu and Dharur villages, with many women complying with the suggestion apprehending danger to the lives of their husbands.

While some believe in the rumour, others feel that a prankster might have triggered it. Whatever may be the case, women in rural areas are seen setting aside their mangalsutras before retiring to bed.

Going further, women of Kuchchinerla of Ketidotti mandal have been setting aside their Mangalsutras only after taking out the red beads from it and pounding them with a pestle keeping them on doorframe (Gadapa).

Meanwhile, those who do not believe in such superstitions are also forced to emulate others for fear of inviting wrath of other women.

According to Kuchchinerla Sarpanch Ramakrishna, because if the rumours, villagers have been spending sleepless nights thinking what bad would happen next second.
