Mahbubnagar: Due to lack of advanced planning, the pace of works undertaken under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) in Mahabubnagar distirct are going on at a snail’s pace.

While reviewing the MGNREGA works in the district, Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao expressed displeasure over the slow pace of works and asked the officials of District Rural Development and District Water Management Agencies to chart out a comprehensive plan to speed up works and set up mandal-wise and village-wise targets to ensure the set target for the district was reached in time.

“We have no dearth of funds for MGNREGA works. However, due to lack of proper planning and focus, works are delayed. Officials must regularly interact with villagers and hold meetings to chart out what kind of works to be taken up,” advised the Minister, while interacting in a video conference with the District Collectors on Friday.

The Minister asked the officials to give priority to construct farm ponds and check dams during the rainy season under MGNREGA.

In addition to this, he also asked the officials to include works like construction of canals, small water channels and lying of roads to farm lands under the MGNREGA programme.

“Officials must come out with innovative ideas and plan the works in advance and ensure all the job card holders get work under MGNREGA,” said the Minister.

Rajeshwar Reddy, Project Director DRDA, Venkateshwarlu, District Planning Officer and other officials took part in the video conference with the Minister.
