Chintalapalem: Fighting over the right to property, kin of a deceased person put off the funeral for three days, in Kothagudem Thanda of Chintalapalem mandal in Suryapet.

According to locals and police, Banoji Venkateshwarlu, 70, a bachelor, has one elder brother, Devoji and two younger brothers, Bavoji and Hanmoji. Venkateshwarlu breathed his last during his visit to Tirupati on Friday. After learning about his death, the brothers brought the dead body of Venkateshwarlu to his native village on Saturday morning.

Narsimha, son of elder brother Devoji, used to look after Venkateshwarlu. In return, Venkateshwarlu registered his four acres in Narshimha’s name. Demanding share in the land of Venkateshwarlu, younger brothers Bavoji and Hanmoji families obstructed the funeral of his brother.

They even got into an altercation and inflicted injuries on each other, and lodged complaints against each other at Chintalapalem police station.

Shocked villagers and police counselled the brothers to address the issue. After settling the land dispute, the brothers conducted the last rites of Venkateshwarlu on Monday, after three days of his death.
