Jagtial: Everyone must participate actively in the third phase of Telanganaku Haritha Haram project, District Collector Dr A Sharath urged.

He was the chief guest at the Jagtial Constituency Haritha Haram meeting held at Padmanayaka Kalyana Mandapam here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that it is everyone’s responsibility to plant the saplings for deriving pure air and heavy rains.

During last year, about 1.09 crore saplings were planted and by observing ‘Green Day’ in every week, nearly 60 per cent of the planted saplings were saved. This year’s target is to plant 1.32 crore saplings in the district, he said.

Sharath ordered the officials to identify places on the premises of government offices, educational institutions and in open places for planting different kinds of saplings suitable for that particular areas along with taking necessary steps for protecting the planted saplings by allotting works under Employment Guarantee Scheme.

He ordered the officials to form ‘Haritha Dalams’ with 15 to 20 members in every village for planting the saplings and to protect them. For every village, a mandal-level officer and for every mandal, a district-level officer will be appointed for protecting the planted saplings, he said.

Different kinds of saplings are available at nurseries and will be distributed from July 12. Identify the suitable place for planting about 11 lakh saplings of palm trees, ordered the Collector.

Local MLA T Jeevan Reddy said that people’s representatives must play a key role in successful implementation of the Haritha Haram project in every village.

At least one sapling must be planted in front of every newly constructed house, he advised. District Collector Dr A Sharath along with MLA T Jeevan Reddy administered oath by everyone for protecting the planted saplings. Later, they watched the photo exhibition organised by forest department, which explained about the importance of plants.

Municipal Chairperson, District Revenue Officer, Project Officer of DRDO, the District Forest Officer and Municipal Commissioner were present along with others.
