Mahbubnagar: The Palamuru University is facing acute staff crunch, particularly in the teaching departments on the campus and across various affiliated post-graduate centres in Kollapur of Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy and Gadwal districts. As against a total requirement of 143 regular teaching staff among all its PG centres, currently the university is managing with only 23 regular members.

“At present, we are having only 23 regular teachers as against a requirement of 143 members. However, we have appointed temporary academic consultants wherever necessary to meet the requirements. We have already sent requests to the government to fill 63 faculty positions and we are expecting to fill vacancies of 10 professors, 11 associate professors and 42 assistant professors,” informed Professor Dr Raja Ratnam, Vice-Chancellor of Palamuru University.

As part of development of the university, recently the varsity authorities have sent proposals to the government to sanction Rs 102 crore. However, the government had sanctioned Rs 40 crore for the academic year 2017-18.

Utilising these funds for the upgradation and construction of new infrastructure facilities, the university authorities have embarked on construction of Examination Branch with Rs 9.3 crore, Convention Centre and university guest house with Rs 3.5 crore, Vice-Chancellor residence with Rs 1.5 crore.

Ready with all the design and layout of these infrastructure facilities, the university authorities have decided to lay foundation stone for Girls Hostel in Kollapur, construction of new science PG block in Mahabubnagar and an administrative building block in Wanaparthy PG colleges.

“On July 14, construction activities of various infrastructure facilities like girls’ hostels, academic block, examination branch, convention centre and guest house would be launched by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari. We are planning to complete all these development activities in the next 1-2 years,” said the V-C.

With regard to construction of administrative block in Wanaparthy, the university authorities are facing problems due to delay in transfer of land in the name of university. Though the V-C and other senior officials have represented the matter to higher ups and brought to the notice of local leaders, this has been left pending due to which the construction of Administrative block in Wanaparthy is getting delayed.

In Gadwal PG centre, the university authorities have recently introduced two new PG courses, MCom and MSc computers. In Gadwal, though there are a lot of developmental works to be taken up with regard to construction of administrative block and hostel buildings, things are getting delayed due to resistance from the local leaders, informed the V-C, while interacting with The Hans India.
