Mahabubabad: Yet another incident of students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) falling sick due to food related ailments took place in the district, causing panic among the parents.

The incidents of food poison occurring frequently in the State, even as the government promises quality food in State-run hostels. Six days after nearly 30 students of Nellikuduru KGBV taken ill after consuming improperly cooked food, 15 students of Thorrur KGBV were hospitalised after having their breakfast on Thursday.

It was said that the students were served wheat rava upma for breakfast. After which the students complained of stomach pain. They were immediately rushed to local community health centre for treatment.

Dr Vijay Kumar at the hospital said all the students were out of danger and were discharged at noon hours. The students complained that they were being served bad quality food every day and were not able to eat properly.

However, the KGBV Principal Shailaja maintained that the students, who complained of stomach pain, have consumed food items they brought from home after they attended bonalu festival. There were 154 students in attendance out of 200 students and only 15 have complained of illness.

If the food was contaminated, all the students should have fallen sick, she noted. On learning about the incident, Mahabubabad RDO Krishnaveni rushed to Thorrur and interacted with the students at the hospital. Later she inspected the hostel. She expressed anger at unhygienic conditions at the hostel and directed the Principal to take immediate measures to keep the surroundings clean.
