Devarakonda: The dream of owning a house by poor seems to be a distant one with construction of houses allegedly being taken up with substandard material.

While the government is sanctioning the 2BHK houses only to a limited number of people, the poor quality of works is raising many doubts on the life of these houses.

Under 2BHK housing scheme, 25 houses are under construction at Konda Bheemanapally of Devarakonda mandal. Of them, only four houses are pending for slabs.

Meanwhile, majority of the houses under construction at Bheemanapally developed cracks. On Thursday, all of a sudden the staircase of a house collapsed leaving two persons injured.

The sudden collapse of the staircase is raising many doubts over the life of the 2 BHK houses. Locals and opposition party leaders demanding change of the contractor to maintain quality in construction of works.

Speaking to The Hans India, ZPTC Allemapalli Narsimha ruled out allegations of substandard quality in construction works of 2BHKs at Bheemanapally and said respective officials were appreciated for the quality of works during their inspection of construction, he added.

He informed that MLA Ravindra Kumar has sanctioned 25 2BHK houses at Bheemanapally under his constituency quota of 400 and assured another 30 houses under additional sanction of 1,000 houses to the constituency.

As many as 2 acres of government land was readily available for construction of the proposed 30 houses in second phase.
