Karimnagar: People from all sections of the society must participate in the Haritha Haram programme to plant the saplings and take steps in protecting them as plants are highly useful for the sustenance of mankind, said Finance Minister Eatala Rajendar in the town on Friday.

Participating in the Haritha Haaram programme organised on a 14-acre land of MARKFED grounds in Padmanagar, the Minister said that students must play a key role in implementing the Haritha Haaram programme to make it successful.

Any kind of programme would become successful if students participate in large numbers, he added. More than 7,000 saplings were planted by the students of various educational institutions on the occasion. Continuing his speech, the Minister said that the district would be placed on top in expanding the green cover by distributing the saplings to every house.

The owners have to protect the saplings from withering away, he added. Due to deforestation on a large scale, the survival of mankind is in danger. After identifying this serious problem, the State government started the prestigious project Haritha Haaram to increase the forest cover to 33 percent in the State, informed the Finance Minister.

CP V B Kamalasan Reddy said that there was a target of planting of nearly one crore saplings on behalf of police department in the district. As part of the programme, about 25,000 saplings would be planted under commissionerate limits along with protecting them, informed the Commissioner.
