Accidents in schools leave parents jittery

​Asifabad: With the recent incident of a student falling from the second floor at Karimnagar still fresh in mind, another incident at the Gurukual school in Jaipur in Mancherial about a student falling from the window has thrown up a big question mark over the safety of students in schools.

Though the managements of various private schools do take measures in order to ensure optimum safety of their students, the incidents which took place last week have created a scare amongst parents across the State.

The situation turned from bad to worse when recently a school bus came to an abrupt halt suddenly thereby injuring two students. Although the transport department does take adequate measures to ensure that the school buses pass the fitness test and even the drivers are well-trained, mishaps keep taking place frequently.

Such incidents, in which students lost their lives should be an eye opener to many of the private school managements.

Though the Education department in the State takes steps to give its approval for the recognition of newly-established schools, it is indifferent in conducting periodic inspections to get a first-hand knowledge about the facilities in the school, especially regarding the safety measures that were being taken.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, District Collector Champalal said, "The management of schools must learn a lesson from such tragic incidents in the State and must make sure that the students studying in their institutions were provided with the best safety measures. They should also carefully monitor the movement of the students in the school to avoid mishaps".

One of the parents Prayag expressed his concern over the lack of safety measures in several schools and urged the managements of private schools to take adequate measures to protect the future citizens.
