​Sircilla: The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, is determined for the development of Goud community present across the State, said Prohibition and Excise Minister Padma Rao.

He along with MP Boinapally Vinod Kumar planted saplings of palm trees in the five acres, which belonged to Goud Welfare Sangham as part of third phase of Haritha Haram programme at Mustafanagar village of Gambhiraopet mandal in the district on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Excise Minister said that the Chief Minister has been introducing several schemes for uplifting various sections of people along with those belonging to Goud community also.

“Compared to other occupations, that of Gouds include lot of dangers and there is no guarantee that a Goud will return safely, who went out to tap toddy. The TRS government, after knowing this, declared Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the people of Goud community if he dies accidentally,” informed the Minister.

To prevent the dangers involved in this profession, the Excise department has sent a team of officials to Kerala to study the modern and new techniques of climbing trees, he informed.

New equipments are used in Kerala for climbing up coconut trees. The government is trying to purchase about 10,000 such equipments at a cost of Rs 8,000 each, to distribute them to the people of Goud community, the Minister said.

As part of third phase of Haritha Haram, each and every person of Goud community must plant at least 10 palm saplings and must adopt them by giving proper protection until they grow to full size, advised Padma Rao.

MP Vinod Kumar said the government is planting thousands of palm trees during the third phase, across the State to uplift the Goud community people. He assured that funds would be released to provide protection to the saplings that were planted in the five acres at Mustafanagar and also funds would be released to dig bore wells.

District Collector D Krishna Bhaskar, District Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Kampati, Excise Deputy Commissioner B Venkatesham Netha, District Superintendent of Excise department K Chandrashekar, Rural Development Officer Panduranga and District Forest Officer Srinivas were present along with ZPTC Padma.
