Senior Police Officer, Navdeep Singh addressed the first-year students at the 20th orientation programme of Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (SNIST) at the campus in Ghatkesar recently.

“Energy phase is very important in life, and the student life is that phase of life where student should pursue their dream with utmost passion,” he said.

“There are cases of students getting into depression stage. It is necessary to identify the cause for such a situation. Please give help. Try to talk continuously and in the process the problems can be identified. Family support is important in such situations,” he said.

He suggested the parents to be in constant touch with the ward, giving an example of US there are many drug addicts.

“Such situation is arising in single parent situation or both the parents are busy and they are unable to spare any time for the child. This is a vicious cycle. Discussions with children will lead to resolution of the problems. After understanding the problem, we can analyse and find a solution,” he explained.

“There is a need for psychological support to the child in adapting to the new situations such as facing a failure. Life is a marathon. There is need for being careful in all the steps that we take in our life,” he motivated.

Syed Qureshi, Dy. Commissioner of Excise and Enforcement addressed the parents to inculcate ethical values to their kids.

“If the students are met with some failure, they will be depressed and to relieve them from this situation they may get addicted to alcohol and later, they will get addicted to drugs,” he warned.

“Many accidents are taking place when they are driving after taking drugs, which leads to catastrophic situation. It is necessary to ponder over the fact as to why our children are getting addicted to drugs.

We are simply following the West. We do not understand that the purpose of life will be affected. People are drinking alcohol and taking drugs for enjoyment.

In most of the cases, such things are happening when the parents are organising parties at home or both parents are working.

The students must understand that instead of getting kick from drinks, they must get kick from their success,” he said.
