The Khammam police have rescued as many as 141 children from various places in Khammam as part of Centre’s Operation Muskaan-3. Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal said many children who were missing were found begging or rag-picking at railway stations, bus stations and on road sides.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal said many children who were missing were found begging or rag-picking at railway stations, bus stations and on road sides.

After receiving orders from the District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar, the representatives of Child Protection Unit, Child Line and Child Welfare Committee with the coordination of officials of revenue, labour, education, medical and women and child welfare departments conducted rescue operations for a month as part of Operation Muskaan-3. The officials identified about 141 children and sent them to rescue homes, informed the top cop.

He further informed that of the 141 rescued children, 129 were handed over to their parents after obtaining their details. The remaining 12 were sent to rescue home. Meanwhile, cases have been lodged against the owners under Juvenile Justice Act for employing the children.

The Commissioner appreciated the District Welfare Officer Cara Lakshmi, District Child Protection Officer Vishnuvardhan, Chairman of District Child Parirakshana Samiti Prasad, Anitha and Circle Inspector Vijay Kumar for carrying out Operation Muskaan-3 successfully in the district.
