Warangal: The TSRTC would operate buses to every village with good road connectivity and 1,400 new buses have been procured for the purpose, said Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy.

He said the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, has provided Rs 1,000 crores to the RTC and Rs 350 crores spent on purchasing new buses. There are 1,200 villages in the State that lacked proper road connectivity and buses were not being operated to those villages.

Every day, nearly 90 lakh people will travel in RTC buses. Bus stations under 96 bus depots were being modernised with Rs 60 crores. About 236 mini-buses were being operated by the RTC and of them 100 were air-conditioned services, the Minister said. He took part in Haritha Haram programmes at Narsampet, Warangal and in Jangaon districts on Tuesday.

At Narsampet, he planted saplings at ‘Bhadrata Vanam’ on the premises of RTC bus depot along with a few drivers with 25 years safety record. He flagged off a Rajadhani bus service from Narsampet to Hyderabad at the bus station.

At Haritha Haram programme at Road Transport Authority (RTA) office at Pembarthi village in Jangaon district, Mahender Reddy said the plantation programme has been receiving good response from common public. He stressed on the need of protecting the saplings planted in the prograrmme.

The Minister also participated in the Haritha Haram programme at Madikonda and at the DTC office in Warangal Urban district.

On the day, he took part in ‘World Auto-rickshaw Drivers Day’ celebrations organised in Hanamkonda by Telangana Auto Drivers Union (TADU). Addressing auto-rickshaw drivers, he assured to allot double bedroom houses auto-rickshaw drivers, who do not have pucca houses.

Mahender Reddy also promised to set up auto stands near RTC bus stations and bus depots in the State for the convenience of the auto drivers. The demand of setting up a corporation with Rs 1,000 crore fund would be taken to the notice of the CM.

The Minister further assured that the police and the RTA officials would be directed not to harass auto-rickshaw drivers regarding minor issues.
