Warangal: Several people’s organisations have appealed the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, to protect geographical identity of Warangal city.

A Committee for Protection of Orugallu City from Bifurcation, consisting of organisations Forum for Better Warangal, Telangana Vidyavantula Vedika, BC JAC, Bar Association and other organisations, has come into existence to fight for the cause.

Expressing objections against the recent proposal to bifurcate Warangal city, the committee leader Prof K Venkata Narayana told The Hans India on Wednesday that it was neither requested by the people nor convenient for those in Narsampet, Parkal and Wardhannapet assembly segments.

It might be noted that the State government has reportedly planned to create Warangal and Hanamkonda districts in the place of Warangal Urban and Rural districts. The proposed bifurcation would create more issues and problems instead of solving any, P Sudhakar, K Ashok Reddy and T Sheshu felt.

Creation of new districts should be based on the convenience of the rural people. It should serve the poor, farmers, tribes, adivasis and unemployed but not vested interests. The proposed districts would be unviable and unsuitable for development.

If the logic of creating a district for every five lakh population to be applied for Hyderabad, then it should divided into 20 districts. Warangal district for unknown reasons is divided indiscriminately, Prof Narayana added further.

Unfortunately, Warangal a growth centre in north Telangana was divided in to five districts and lost its identity. The idea of new district should serve the rural and tribal but not opportunists in power, the committee leaders Rajendra Prasad and T Ramu observed.
