Mahbubnagar: District Collector Ronald Rose has directed the authorities of District Water Development Agency (DWMA) and the officials of Engineering department to prepare detailed plans for the completion of works of check dams in the district in time.

Usually, the works of check dams and water recharge pits must begin before the onset of monsoon. However, the works have not commenced though the monsoon season has begun two months ago. Of the four major check dams sanctioned in the district, only one has been completed.

The works of other three check dams are pending at various levels. For instance, the works of check dam in Peddar Revally village of Balanagar mandal are yet to be started though it was sanctioned long back.

Another check dam in Damargidda mandal, which has been sanctioned Rs 20 lakh, is also pending due to non- availability of proper location for its construction.

Similar is the case with the check dam in Koilkonda mandal. Though Rs 45 lakh was sanctioned for the check dam in Narva mandal, the works are yet to take off as lack of land availability, poor coordination between the officials of revenue, engineering and DWMA authorities are creating hurdles in its way.

Each of these check dams will be constructed with a length of more than 100 meters and will stock large quantities of water that help in recharging groundwater table and also provide water for animals.

While reviewing the delay in construction of check dams, the Collector directed the officials concerned to resolve all the issues related to check dams and asked the technical engineers to prepare a detailed plans to complete the works in time.

“Recharging groundwater table is our priority. For this, we have initiated the construction of check dams. There is no dearth of funds for the construction and what we need is proper coordination among various departments.

We have directed the officials to prepare detailed project report for each check dam and prepare advanced planning before taking up construction and asked them to complete in time,” said the Collector.
