Sircilla: Breast feeding not only helps the infant in its growth but also the mother in keeping her healthy, observed District Collector D Krishna Bhaskar. In association with Women & Child Welfare and Medical & Health departments, Women, Child, Disabled and Senior Citizen department had organised an awareness programme to the supervisors and anganwadi teachers on the occasion of ‘Breast Feeding Week’ here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector Krishna Bhaskar said that it is very important to feed the new born baby with ‘Colostrum’ (it is a form of milk produced by the mammary glands after delivering the baby) for the first few days as it helps in developing the immune system of the child.

The anganwadi teachers must conduct door-to-door survey and must educate people about the importance of breast feeding, he suggested.

Joint Collector Yasmine Basha said that mothers must breastfeed babies up to six months and later can give the child cow’s milk also along with their milk for at least one to two years.

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan falling on August 7, Women and Child Welfare department is distributing about 4,000 rakhis to every village through Anganwadi teachers for providing an awareness to the people about the importance of having a girl child.
