Sircilla: Action will be taken on the beneficiaries if they misuse the Sheep Rearing Scheme (SRS) introduced by the State government to uplift shepherd community, warned District Collector D Krishna Bhaskar here on Friday.

He chaired a meeting with the officials of Animal Husbandry department to explain the ‘Special Sheep Development Scheme’ at the Collectorate.

Speaking at the meeting, the Collector said the government, aiming to increase animal wealth in the State, had decided to distribute sheep units to the real beneficiaries on 75 per cent subsidy.

About 16,162 families have been identified as beneficiaries for distribution of sheep units in the district in two phases. Out of which, sheep unites were distributed to about 1,640 beneficiaries till date after enquiring whether they have the resources to rear the sheep.

If the beneficiaries try to sell the sheep after getting them from the government, or if they transport the sheep to other State for selling, actions will be taken against such persons as per law, warned the Collector.

Special Officers were appointed for random checking of sheep units once in a week visiting every village to prevent irregularities in the scheme. The district administration will even lodge criminal cases on the persons, who misuse the scheme, added the Collector.

Presently the district is in seventh position in the State in the implementation of ‘Sheep Rearing Scheme’. The Collector stated that the implementation of the scheme is going on slowly since it is taking 12 to 16 hours to transport the purchased sheep from Kadapa and other areas to the district. But, he assured of taking measures to speed up the entire process.

Animal Husbandry Joint Director Kanthaiah Sena, Additional Director Komraiah and District Public Relation Officer Mamindla Dasharatham were present along with others.
