Warangal: With the construction works of a stable picking up pace, the Warangal Police Commissionerate will soon realise its dream of having horse-mounted policemen amongst its ranks.

It may be noted here that the Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu has been working on a plan for the last few months to give a new look to the city police by introducing a horseback police unit.

The construction works of a stable with an outlay of Rs 35 lakh started in April. As the location of the stable falls inside the Fort Warangal near Matti Kota area, it needed coordination between the Archaeological and Police departments. Its learnt that presence of a representative from the Archaeological department was a must during the construction.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Sudheer Babu said: “The construction of the stable will be completed within two months. However, the horseback policemen unit will be used in patrolling and organising bandobast and during ceremonial functions. It would be an added attraction for tourists visiting Warangal.”

It may be noted here that to start with, the Commissionerate will have a 10-member unit of horseback policemen. Currently, the horses procured for the unit are being trained at the Mounted Police Horse Riding Ground at Goshamahal in Hyderabad. A team of constables from Warangal Commissionerate had also undergone training in Hyderabad, it’s learnt.
