Hanamkonda: Grand and lively Krishna Janmashtami celebrations have taken place here on Monday commemorating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu.

Lord Krishna is considered one of the most powerful human incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The festival was celebrated with great devotion with devotees decorating the temples, homes and offering special prayers on the day.

At the historic Bhadrakali temple in Warangal, the presiding deity was decorated in the form of Lord Krishna and Sri Krishna Janmashtami Vratam and special prayers were conducted and temple was kept open for devotees till late night hours.

The temple main priest, Bhadrakali Sheshu, explained the devotees the significance of incarnation of Lord Vishnu as Lord Krishna. Special prayer rituals were also performed at the temple marking Kalikashtami, which falls on the day.

Meanwhile, cultural events were held at several schools that were decorated colourfully. Children from kindergarten and primary sections were dressed up as Lord Krishna, Radha and gopikas danced to popular songs on Lord Krishna.

Events like breaking of ‘Utti’ and enactment of different episodes from the life of Lord Krishna were held at the city-based Daffodils High School, Kinderland School and others. ‘The events are conducted to educate the children about the importance of the festival,’ said the Director of Kinderland School, TD Tommy.

Similarly, special prayers and bhajans were conducted at The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Temple at Mulug road in the city. Utti breaking events were held at Kothawada in Warangal, Venkateshwara temple in Hanamkonda and other places.
