Police want to sensitise people on national anthem
Jammikunta: Aimed to instill patriotism among the people, the Jammikunta police came up with an initiative of hoisting flag and playing national anthem in the police station every day at 8 am. The initiative will commence from this Independence Day.
Shocked about the ignorance of the students about the country and national anthem during a routine programme, the police took the initiative to create awareness among the students and others also. “I was surprised and felt bad as the students even do not know whether the national anthem is ‘Jana Gana Mana’ or ‘Vande Mataram,” Circle Inspector Prashanth Reddy said.
As part of the drive, mike arrangements were made at main centers and streets in the town. As many as 70 CCTC cameras were also set up in these locations. A siren would be sounded before the national anthem played to alert the public.
All persons, whether they are working or travelling, have to stop and pay attention to the anthem. The police personnel are conducting meetings with youth and students at their respective colleges in this regard and also organizing various programmes to sensitise people on patriotism.
CI Prashanth Reddy said the police station will be made as a model, where staff will hoist the flag and sing national anthem regularly at 8 am. “A pleasant atmosphere will prevail in the station. Students and people will be sensitised in phases,” he added.
People felt that Jammikunta police will set an example for others to follow. They hope that other will follow the suit.
Welcoming the initiative by the police, ocals Ravi and Mallesham said, “The initiative will help the present and future generations to know about the importance of the national anthem. The idea of spending a minute every day to sing the national anthem itself is an enriching experience. This will develop as a
good habit”.
