ZP Chairperson calls for increasing literacy rate among women

Khammam: Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepally Kavitha felt that there was a need for women to become literates as they play key role in nourishing children and shaping their future.

An awareness programme on women’s literacy was organised by the Vibrants of Kalam Organization under the banner ‘Akshara Khammam’ at Global Institute in Khammam on Thursday.

Attending as a chief guest to the programme, the ZP chairperson said even though women were competing equally with men there was discrimination against women in every field. The reason behind this was illiteracy among women, she opined, adding that by becoming literates’ women must play a key role in building a bright nation.

Stating that mother is child’s first teacher, Kavitha said as a mother a woman plays a significant role in moulding children’s future. “The literacy rate of women at present is only 57 per cent in the nation. There is need to increase this rate for a better State and nation,” she observed.

Women should actively take part and hoist the national flags in 1,000 villages on the occasion of World Literacy Day on September 8 and create awareness among people on women’s literacy across the district.

Former Municipal Chairperson Afroz Sameena, Advocate Vanam Krishnaveni, Congress Party Women Wing president Bandi Mani, BJP Women Wing President Sridevi, TRS Town president Kollu Padma, Corporator Darepally Shwetha, Telangana Jagruthi leader Shoba Rani, SK Shakeena, Nirmala, Kanaka Durga, Rajeshwari, Manju and Mrudula were present .
