Dak Sevaks demand regularisation of jobs
The members of All India Grameen Dak Sevak’s Union (AIGDSU) have demanded the Centre initiate immediate measures to regularise their jobs.
Warangal: The members of All India Grameen Dak Sevak’s Union (AIGDSU) have demanded the Centre initiate immediate measures to regularise their jobs.
The Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) on Thursday boycotted the work and staged demonstrations at post offices across the district in support of their demands. At the district headquarters, demonstration was held at Warangal Head Post Office as part of their nation-wide agitation launched on Wednesday.
Speaking to presspersons here, the union leaders Qadar Hussain, A Ravinder, Shahabuddin, K Vijay Kumar, V Ravi Kumar and other have demanded immediate implementation of the recommendations of Kamlesh Chandra Committee.
The committee, in its report has recommended equal pay for equal work, and grant of pension on retirement. But the Centre has not been implementing it. The main demand was to regularise the GDS by evolving a scheme to absorb them into regular work force.
All the benefits being given to departmental staff should be extended to Dak Savaks, the leaders said.
Of the 1.50 lakh post offices country-wide, 1.30 lakh post offices were situated in rural areas.
The Dak Sevaks execute important tasks like distribution of social security pensions, employment guarantee scheme payments, collection of recurring deposits, postal life insurance and others.
‘We are being paid a meagre monthly salary of Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 and do not get pension after retirement as we are not permanent employees. We are fighting for our rights for several decades but the Centre is not paying attention,’ the union leaders complained.
The city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari extended solidarity to the protesting Dak Sevaks and took part in the demonstration at Warangal head post office.
