Hanamkonda: Go green without much ado, Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu suggested at the peace committee meeting here on Friday ahead of Ganesh Navaratri Utsav which would commence from August 25.

Speaking at the meeting, he said that people of Warangal have always maintained a harmonious religious spirit during every festival. He expressed confidence that the same spirit would continue in the ensuing Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.

The Commissioner of Police explained the ‘Dos and Donts’ to be followed by Utsav committees during the nine-day festival and the measures to be taken by them to coordinate with the police for the peaceful conduct of the festival. He also elicited information from the religious heads for the Ganesh Chaturthi and as well as Bakrid that falls on September 2.

“The need of the hour is to focus on environmental protection. The onus is on every single person to strive for it to the maximum possible extent,” Sudheer Babu said, appealing to the people to install clay idols.

Furthermore, he told the organisers to seek prior permission from the landlord, police and the other authorities concerned for holding the festival. They were also advised to keep noise levels as low as possible, besides restricting themselves to devotional songs. The Commissioner advised the people not to consume liquor near the Ganesh pandals.

Bhadrakali Temple chief priest Sheshu, Kazipet Darga Khusroo Pasha, Sailani Baba, Bishop Udumala Bala, Gangu Upendra Sharma, Ananta Mallaiah Sharma, city Utsav committee vice-president Sunil and BJP leader Gande Naveen, Central and West zone DCPs Venugopal Rao and Venkanna were among others present.
