Hanamkonda: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation general body meeting held on Thursday was centered on targeting the officials and discussing hike in allowances being given to the corporators.

A proposal to surrender four senior officials and two others to state government was passed at the meeting, besides a proposal seeking to hike the corporator’s allowances by more than 90 percent.

City planner Chandrika, Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Shaheed Masood, senior assistant S. Jakir Hussain, assistant engineer Bhasker and TPO Mohamad Basheer were the officials that the Corporation wanted to surrender to the government. Incidentally promoting Jakir Hussain to the position of Superintendent was on the agenda on the day.

Responding on the charges, the city planner said she was under heavy work pressure in view of the lack of sufficient staff and that’s why she failed to pay attention to the elected members. She also tendered an apology for her alleged indifference towards the elected members.

On the other hand, the surrender of Assistant Commissioner Shaeed Masood who was known to be a hardworking officer has raised many eyebrows over the Corporation’s proposal.

The meeting chaired by Mayor N Narender has taken up eight issues such as water supply, sanitation illegal constructions for discussion. Majority of the corporators have complained about negligent attitude of the officials towards the elected members and in executing developmental works.

A TRS corporator from 22nd division Marupalli Bhagyalakshmi attended the meeting sporting a black badge as a mark of protest against lack of developmental works in her division. She moved a proposal to hike the corporator’s allowance to Rs 50000 per month from the current allowance Rs 6000 was adopted unanimously by the council.

Heated discussions took place between the TRS and Congress members over the issue of increasing the wages of outsourcing workers. Later it was proposed to hike outsourcing labour wages to Rs 12500 and outsourcing jawans to Rs 13, 000 per month.

A TRS corporator Boda Dinna complained about the alleged negligence of contractors in executing developmental works. He said despite repeated requests the contractors were not executing the works and wanted action against such contractors.

In his response, Mayor said that action would be taken against erring contractors. He gave his consent for to review the increased water taxes and apartments capitation fees.

MLAs D Vinay Bhasker and K Surekha, deputy mayor Khaja Sirajuddin and municipal commissioner Shruti Ojha were present.
