A weaver’s family of Nalgonda has been presenting Shesha Vastram (cloth that is wrapped around the shoulders of the idol) to Hyderabad’s tallest Khairatabad Ganesh for the last five years.

Nalgonda: A weaver’s family of Nalgonda has been presenting Shesha Vastram (cloth that is wrapped around the shoulders of the idol) to Hyderabad’s tallest Khairatabad Ganesh for the last five years.

Based on height of the Ganesh idol, this year, the family has weaved a 75-feet long Shesha Vastram which would be wrapped around the shoulders of the idol during Ganesh Navaratri celebrations.

The family members feel that they are blessed to weave the Shesha Vastram and informed that they take Ganesh deeksha and observe fast when weaving the Vastram.

This time they had weaved the Vastram with pure cotton and designed the border with polyester cloth. The border has the designs of Shivalingam and Trishul on one side and Kalasam and Ganesh on the other.

Speaking to The Hans India, the donor of Shesha Vastram and powerloom company owner Karnati Yadagiri informed that a special pooja of the Shesha Vastram would be performed at local Panchamukha Hanuman Temple and it would be handover to Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee through Minister for Handlooms and Textiles KT Rama Rao on the festival day.

Stating that the family would continue the tradition of weaving the Vastram for life time, Yadagiri informed that along with Khairatabad Ganesh, similar Vastram was prepared to present to the tallest Ganesh of Amaravati.

Nearly, 10 weavers under the guidance of Yadagiri prepared had prepared the two Shesha Vastrams each 75-feet-long, with an estimated cost of Rs 30,000 each.
