Peddpally: former chairman of the Zilla Parishad Adluri Lakshman Kumar here on Thursday condemned the attacks of Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders on the leaders of the Congress party in a public hearing programme held on Wednesday of the proposed construction of Kaleshawram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP).

Speaking to the media at the district headquarters, Lakshman Kumar wondered as to why the public hearing was conducted by the State government after completing one year of construction works. What is the use of taking the opinions of public when the construction works were already under progress, he questioned.

When the former Minister of Congress party Sridhar Babu questioned the officials about the ex gratia that must be paid to the farmers who lost their fields under the construction works of KLIP and on various other issues, the TRS party leaders intentionally created chaos and attacked the Congress party leaders along with lodging false cases on them, he alleged.

He criticised the State government for organising the public hearing programme with TRS party activists without inviting the farmers who lost their fertile lands under KLIP.

Even the District Collector who must consider the proposals made by the public and objections of the people on the construction of projects did not behave in a democratic way. Instead, he organised the programme in favour of the ruling TRS party, he lamented.

The former ZP chief said that by suspending the public hearing, the government must reorganise the programme on some other day and also release the Congress party leaders who were illegally arrested by the police by lodging false cases.
