Khammam: To achieve the target of total literacy in the district, all sections of people must participate in Akshara Khammam programme, urged Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy here on Thursday.

A meeting was held on the implementation of Askhara Khammam programme with the representatives of various political parties, under the leadership of Vijay Kalam, founder of Vibrants of Kalam Organisation, at a private resort in Khammam on Thursday.

Speaking at the meeting, the MP said all sections of people, irrespective of their political affiliations, must participate in the programme of hoisting national flag on the occasion of World Literacy Day on September 8, and create awareness among people on the importance of education and advantages of being literate.

He appreciated the efforts of Vibrants of Kalam Organisation for taking the initiative to start Akshara Khammam programme. The MP assured that necessary support would be extended to the ogranisation for conducting the programme successfully.

Later, the MP along with MLC Balasani Lakshminarayana and MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar launched the Akshara Khammam website.

City Mayor Dr Papa Lal, Deputy Mayor Battula Murali, Agriculture Market Committee Chairman RJC Krishna, TDP district president Kurapati Venkateshwarlu, Congress leader MD Chota Babu, CPI leader Jani Miya, CPM leaders Bandi Ramesh and Upendar, BJP leaders Rudra Pratap and M Rama Rao and TRS leader K Murali were present along with others.
