Hanamkonda: The Medical and Health department has identified nearly 2.65 lakh children aged between nine months and 15 years for administration of Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine in the district, informed the DM&HO Dr B Harish Raj.

He called upon the NGOs to come forward in contributing their mite for the success of the vaccination programme, which would be conducted till September 25. The participation of NGOs was desirable to ensure 100 per cent coverage of the children, he said.

He addressed an awareness camp organised on the vaccination programme at a government school in the city on Thursday by Sarvodaya Youth Organisation with an objective of educating the students.

“The vaccine is fully safe. Every parent should ensure that their children in the above age group are given the vaccine. It could be administered even if the children were facing minor health issues, except severe fever, vomiting and motions,” Dr Harish Raj clarified.

If any child suffers from fever after administering the vaccine, the symptoms could be controlled by taking paracetamol tablet, he suggested. Sarvodaya secretary Dr P Damodar informed that they have been conducting awareness camps and rallies at numerous places in Warangal urban and rural districts towards the success of the vaccination programme.

Flex banners were put up at all gram panchayat and municipal divisions. Meetings were held with village committees advising the villagers to administer the MR vaccine without fail. The response from the public was good, he added.

GWMC corporator B Kavitha Srikanth, school headmistress N Uma, DMHO mass media officer Ashok Reddy and others were present. Meanwhile, a team of national and international observers have came to the city and held a meeting with the DMHO Harish Raj.

During the meeting, the officer informed that during the past five days, many children were administered the vaccine. Since there were large numbers of schools in the city, ANMs from rural PHCs were deputed to administer the vaccine in the city, he noted.
