Mancherial: Minister for Forests and Environment Jogu Ramanna appealed to the people to use eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols to celebrate the Ganesh festival and desist from using Ganesh idols made of plaster of paris as they were not only costly but also harmful to the environment.

He was taking part in a training programme conducted by the forest department and Green Corps, a voluntary organization, and released a poster brought out on the occasion and distributed clay Ganesh idols among the students.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the State government took many steps to safeguard the environment. He said that it dispatched thousands of clay Ganesh idols to districts to encourage people to use them during the festival. It conducted an extensive campaign on clay Ganesh idols with the help of AP Pollution Control Board.

MLC Puranam Satish, MLA Diwakar Rao, municipal chairman Vasundhara, Divisional Forest Officer Prabhakar, Green Corps member Yogeshwar and others took part in the programme.
