Warangal: Kakatiya University, which celebrated its 41st formation day this month, is going for the cycle-3 of accreditation process by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

The university is fully geared up for the three-day visit of NAAC peer team, which arrives here on Monday, for the assessment of the university to award grading. The university authorities have some time back sent letter of intent for NAAC accreditation and the council accepted the letter consenting to conduct physical inspection in August.

This is the third time the university is going for the NAAC assessment. In 2003 the university went for NAAC accreditation during the period of its vice chancellor Prof C K Kokate and was awarded B+ Grade.

The assessment process took place for the second time in 2009, when Prof N Linga Murthy was the Vice-Chancellor and was given ‘A’ Grade. The university, which is supposed to go for the cycle-3 accreditation process in the year 2014, in which the previous grading expired, could not do so in view of the State government failure to appoint a regular Vice- Chancellor.

The present Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna, who completed one year term in the office this month, has made serious efforts in preparing the entire administrative staff and faculty to the NAAC assessment. He took care of implementing Choice Based Credit System and semester system at both at UG and PG level, as per the UGC guidelines. To regulate the attendance of all the stake holders of the university, biometric system has been implemented.

He held a series of meetings with the teaching and non-teaching staff, elite of the city and alumni on the importance of the NAAC accreditation and motivated them to lend their support in gearing up for the peer team visit.

The university sources informed The Hans India that department profiles, individual profiles are kept ready, and mock presentations conducted along with executing development works worth Rs 3 crores such as road works, colouring of all the departments, lighting.

A clean and green activity by NSS volunteers and staff of SDLCE has been conducted for one week on the campus to spruce up the premises. The service associations gave a call to their employees to be ready for extra work on Sundays falling on August 20 and 27 are declared working days.

The university authorities are hoping that they could get the grade A and above.

‘NAAC grading is prestigious for every educational institution. Funds from central government and agencies like UGC, CSIR, DST (Department of Science and Technology), Rashtriya Uchathar Sikhsa Yojana depend on this rank,’ a senior professor explained.

According to the university sources in order to qualify for any grade (C to A++) an institution needs to score at least 30 per cent of the quantitative System Generated Score (SGS) and qualitative score in each criterion.

The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) an institution should be between 3.76-4.00 to get A++ grade, 3.51-3.75 for A+ grade and 3.01-3.50 for A grade. The accreditation status is valid for five years from the date of approval by the Executive Committee of the NAAC.
