The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) council’s decision to surrender six of its officials to the State government has been causing commotion among the corporation officials and other employees.
Warangal: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) council’s decision to surrender six of its officials to the State government has been causing commotion among the corporation officials and other employees.
It may be noted that the GWMC general body, which met on last Thursday, had passed a resolution to surrender the officials to the government on the grounds that they are not ‘responsive’ towards the corporators and not ‘obliging’ them.
The council wanted to surrender city planner Chandrika, Assistant Commissioner Md Shaeed Masood, senior assistant Sk Jakir Hussain, Assistant Engineer Bhasker and TPO Md Basheer to the government. Official communication in this connection has already been sent to the government.
The Mayor, N Narender, and the corporators, who levelled charges against the officials, have not clearly defined what they meant by the words ‘responsive’ and ‘obliging’. But they are of the opinion that the action of surrendering the officials to the government will be a lesson to them.
However, the employees and officials working with the corporation were not convinced over the charges on the officials and the act of passing resolution to surrender them to the government and demanding to withdraw the resolution.
“The reasons stated for the action are sound enough and that is why we are opposing the act,” said the GWMC Employees JAC leader G Raju. He informed The Hans India that they have met Municipal Commissioner Shruti Ohja and Mayor Narender, urging them to withdraw the resolution.
The resolution passed at the general body meeting was unexpected. It will send a wrong message to the public and affect the functioning of the corporation, which already been suffering shortage of staff, he felt.
Except two or three opposition corporators, all the corporators including the local MLAs have supported the resolution to surrender the officials. It will serve as a deterrent to the other officials and helps in making them deliver better, noted a coporator J Ramesh.
But the trade union leaders differ with his view. The CITU district secretary Ragula Ramesh alleged that the reason for surrendering the officials is that they are not cooperating with elected members in creating fake bills and other illegal acts.
“It is not proper to surrender the officials just because they are not listening to the Mayor and the corporators. They must stop harassing the employees and officials. The elected members failed to deliver their duties other hand blaming the workforce,” he added.
It is worth noting that the council, which acted against the officials, has failed to take action against the contractors, who were accused of neglecting the execution of works and executing sub-standard works.
A TRS corporator Boda Dinna during the general body meeting complained that due to negligence of contractors, developmental works under corporation are being hit. Stating that even after repeated requests, the contractors are not executing the works, he wanted action against such contractors.
Nonetheless, the council remaining reluctant tells about the GWMC’s unfairness. It is learnt that the Commissioner is also upset with the recent development and the employees are exploring means and ways to express their dissent.
