Warangal: A senior journalist, Veluvali Arka Narasa Raju (VAN Raju), has passed away on Sunday at the age of 87 years. He played multiple roles a scribe, newspaper agent and as a proprietor of a book stall.

He served a vernacular daily ‘Andhra Prabha’ as Kazipet reporter until recently. He was ill for the past few days and breathed his last during late night hours of Sunday at his residence at Rahmath Nagar in Kazipet.

Raju was instrumental in framing the by-laws of Warangal Press Club during 1999. He was known to be a straight forward, honest and affectionate personality among his friends and journalistic circles. He inspired a generation of journalists and served as in-charge president of the Press Club for some time.

His last rites were held on Monday at grave yard near vegetable market in Kazipet in the presence of his family members, friends and a large number of scribes from across the city.
