Warangal: The elderly inmates of Sahrudaya Old Age Home on Wednesday had an exciting day of fun and frolic.

The aged inmates, usually overcome with ennui, were filled with amusement and joy with the musical concert and mimicry show organised under the aegis of Sulakshya Seva Samithi and an NRI couple, Suresh Puram and Swapna Puram.

The NRI Suresh said that though he resides far away from Warangal, he always wanted to give something back to the society. ‘I'm glad for being a reason to bring smiles on the faces of these elderly destitute,’ he said.

The inmates of the old age home Narsamma, Leelavathi and others were equally glad at the concern shown by the samithi and the NRI couple to them. Expressing pleasure with tears rolling down, they said ‘We longed to have this kind gesture at our fag end of lives’.

Singers Ravi Balaji, Chandana and their team entertained the inmates by singing old melodies taking them back to their good olden days. Noted mimicry artist Bharath enthralled the elderly men and women with his performance. A noted writer and cartoonist Rama Nellutla, who attended the event as a guest, felt selfishness among the current generation was a major problem and reason behind abandoning of parents by children. Parents should instil ethics, values and morals in the children right from their childhood. She commended the Samithi and the NRI couple for their gesture.

Sulakshya founder-president Santhosh Manduva said loneliness was the major challenge the elderly face. It leads to deterioration if not addressed properly. Elderly, who were once busy with their work, were tend to suffer with boredom once they retire from their jobs and that was why the music concert was held.

The inmates were later served cake and fruits. Kodam Vinay, Sanjeeva Rao, Vijaya, Mahender Rao, Old age home representatives Md. Chotu and Yakubee took part in the event.
