Hanamkonda: White Ribbon Civil Society Forum (WRCSF) established by different NGOs, officials and social activists to help women, who were victims of acts of violence, is set to expand its network to colleges.

It was planned to establish White Ribbon Student Committees with ten students each at colleges in Warangal urban area. Prior to setting up the committees, awareness programmes on women rights and their issues would be conducted at the colleges.

A resolution was passed at the society office bearers meeting in Hanamkonda on Thursday. Several issues were discussed and resolutions were passed. The society intended to form White Ribbon Society Committees in all the 29 mandals of Warangal Urban district with five members in each committee.

Similarly, it was decided to engage five women activists in all the 58 divisions of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GMWC). These measures were meant to spread awareness on women rights and to protect them, the forum member and Sarvodaya Youth Organisation secretary Dr P Damodar informed.

The forum members during the meeting have welcomed the recent ruling of the Apex Court on triple talaq, which they said a significant move towards protection of rights of Muslim women.

They also lauded the courts’ verdict in the case of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Noted writer Anishetty Rajitha speaking at the meeting said the society, set up in the year 2015, has been striving to address women’s issues by developing a network of women activists to work on women rights. It has also been inviting experts working in the field of women rights for better results.

In spite of several legislations to safeguard the rights of women in the country, the task of ensuring justice and equality to women has always been a tough task. The reason was lack of awareness among women and improper implementation of such legislations, noted Prof Padma.

The forum members have all appealed the NGOs working in the field and government agencies to play an active role in the direction of putting a stop to violation of women’s rights and prejudice towards womenfolk.

District Rural Development Agency district official N Sathish Kumar, Priyadarshini Mahila Sangham president Gouda Rama Devi, senior advocate R Bhasker Reddy, activists P Sushma, Vijay Moses and V Indira were present.
