Nalgonda: Along with people, even the Lord Ganesh seems to become a victim of water scarcity during the immersion period. The Nagarjunasagar Project with paints a gloomy picture with falling water levels every passing day.

This time, as the water level in NSP fell below 10 feet as against the dead storage level of 510 feet, there is no chance of release of water to canals and linked ponds from the reservoir. In this context, regular centralised immersion of Ganesh idols of Nalgonda and surrounding places at the 14th milestone of Sagar Left Canal (Ali Nagar near Halia) has been cancelled, and people were asked to immerse the idols at local ponds where water was available.

According to the official information, devotees have installed as many as 5,262 idols across the district. Of them, 2,493 idols were installed in Nalgonda town and villages under 5 kilometres of its radius. To immerse these Ganesh idols, the officials have selected Bathukamma pond located on the outskirts of Nalgonda on Narketpally-Addanki bypass road and Gachhu Goru pond of Yarasanigudem of Kattangur mandal which falls under Nakrekal constituency.

District administration along with police has been making all necessary arrangements for immersion including deployment of cranes, flood lights, expert swimmers. Apart from that CCTV cameras were also installed for strict vigil. Meanwhile, respective officials directed the organisers of Ganesh pandals of Miryalaguda, Halia, Nidmanoor, Peddavoora and Devarakonda towns to immerse idols at local ponds.
