Ganesh mandalis honoured for eco-friendly, innovative idols & programmes
The town-based NGO Disha Social Service Organisation has honored eco-friendly Ganesh mandalis and organisations, volunteers, who promoted clay idols of Lord Ganesh during Navaratri festivities.
Mahabubabad: The town-based NGO Disha Social Service Organisation has honored eco-friendly Ganesh mandalis and organisations, volunteers, who promoted clay idols of Lord Ganesh during Navaratri festivities.
Sri Laxmi Ganappathi Seva Trust, Mahabubabad was adjudged the eco-friendliest Ganesh mandali in the seventh edition of Disha Green Ganesha Competition. The eco-friendliest Ganesha awareness campaign prize was bagged by Nenu-saithum campaigners Subhani and Saleema. B Tech student B Suresh bagged the award in the most eco-friendly Ganesha volunteer category. He travelled from Mahabubabad to Kanyakumari on bicycle to promote eco-friendly habits among the youth.
The awardees were given a memento and a cash prize of Rs 1,000 each at a programme on Sunday.
For the past ten years, Disha conducted many environment protection programmes in Mahabubabad such as encouraging planting of saplings, Vrukaha Raksha Bandan and promoting clay idols, said its founder G Gurunatha Rao.
He said environmental protection has become a matter of great concern for humans and expressed pleasure over the increasing awareness among the public towards the use of clay idols. Many organisations should come forward to promote environmental protection. Environment activists TV Ramnarsaiah, SV Nageshwar Rao, G Kamal Kumar and others were present.
Meanwhile in Warangal, the city Ganapathi Navarathri Utsava Samithi has presented prizes to the best Ganesh mandalis in different categories. A total of 19 Ganesh Mandalis were given prizes.
Vinayaka Association of Sivanagar and Sri Gajanana Mandali of Advocates Colony were presented first and second prizes respectively for being the Best Ganesh Mandalis, informed the samithi convener N Bhasker Rao. The samithi president K Jayapal Reddy and general secretary N Chandar Babu said that in view of the increased environmental awareness the number of clay Ganesh idols have gone up in the city. Organisers have conducted innovative programmes that boosted the spirit of Ganesh Navarathri celebrations.
‘The cooperation extended by Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu is memorable. He provided us with valuable inputs on ensuring smooth conduct of Ganesh Navarathri in the city and we thank him,’ they said.
