Woman gang-raped; 3 held
The police on Sunday arrested three persons on the charge of gang raping a married woman at an isolated place in Patha Yellapur of Khanapur mandal on Saturday night. The accused were identified as Dharmapuri, Chinnappa and Gangadhar of same village.Â

Sub-Inspector of Police Vinay said that the trio went to her house on the night of the day after confirming that her husband was not at home. They gagged her, took her to an isolated place and gang-raped her. Later they tried to kill her by throttling. But escaped from there when some persons reached the spot after hearing the cries of the victim.
The victim’s family members lodged a police complaint and demanded stringent action against the accused for planning to kill the woman. During the police questioning the trio confessed of their crime.
The police visited the spot and secured evidence. The woman also gave her version to the police and her health reportedly deteriorating. The SI said that a case under Section 376 D of IPC was registered.
