Akiveedu: The SC Railway Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee Member and BJP leader, Nerella SAVV Naga Satyanarayana (Pedababu), has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to minimise the Contour level from Plus-5 to Plus-3 in Kolleru area to benefit the zirayiti farmers in the area.
In a letter to Prime Minister, the BJP leader stated that following the Kolleru operation to protect the world famous Kolleru Lake, the Zirayiti farmers who had legitimate Pattas to their lands had been facing difficulties to take up cultivation under the plus five contour. He stated that the forest officials are objecting the cultivation by them in their lands, following the Central Government’s decision of protection of the bird sanctuary. He stated that if the contour level minimised to plus three, the Zirayiti farmers would benefit besides lakhs of Kolleru area people. He pointed out that during the election campaign in Bhimavaram in 2014 May, the Prime minister assured that he would solve the problems of the Kolleru farmers and people.
However, so far no attention was paid towards the Kolleru farmers and people and still, they had been suffering a lot with the restrictions to eke out their livelihood. No compensation had been paid to the farmers who incurred losses due to the GO 120 and the Centre’s decision to protect the Kolleru lake. He requested the Prime Minister to look into the matter and favour the farmers and the people of Kolleru.
