Khanapur (Nirmal): The officials of Electricity department urged the farmers to remove automatic starters in the light of round-the-clock power supply to farm sector from January 1.

The officials have identified quick depletion of ground water as the automatic starters enable the pump sets to run round the clock, leading to misuse of power supply, frequent damage to the pump sets and so on.

Recent week-long trial run of the continuous power supply apparently solved many problems of farmers. Therefore, the farmers have been voluntarily coming forward to remove the starters.

Under the limits of four electric sub-stations in Kadem and Dasturabad mandals, there are over 20,000 pump sets. In fact, 50 per cent of the pump sets were fitted with the starters. The electricity officials are sensitising farmers to remove the starters as their use is posing technical problems.

Acting on the advice of the officials, many farmers in Kadem and Dasturabad mandals have voluntarily removed the starters. The officials have threatened to disconnect power supply to the pump sets if the farmers were adamant on removing the starters.

Telangana State Transco Assistant Engineer Kesetti Srinivas said the farmers would benefit manifold on account of the new year’s gift of the State government to them – 24 x7 supply of power.

He appealed to them to cooperate with the officials to save energy and to solve other resultant problems.
