Hyderabad: Great Hyderabad Adventure Club is organising the Wilderness Advanced First Aid – WAFA Certification, in association with Hanifl Centre for Outdoor Education, from January 18th to 21st. The WAFA First Aid certification is recommended certification for all Outdoor Instructors, Sports & Fitness Instructors, Outbound Trainers and Facilitators who conduct activities in the outdoors.

The First Aid Certification aims to develop competence in the instructors and enthusiasts to manage and handle injuries that could become risk to life if not attended to immediately. The Certification course comprises of a 28-hour (WAFA) module and a 4-hour Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) module spread over 4 days and is accredited by Wilderness Medicine Society (WMS) and American Heart Association (AHA). The course is conducted by certified Instructors from the Hanifl Centre, in partnership with AERIE Back Country Medicine, USA.

There is significant growth in interest and participation from the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in many outdoor, fitness and sports activities that includes running, cycling, trekking, camping, rock climbing andvaried adventure activities.

Diyanat Ali, Founder, Great Hyderabad Adventure Club observes that outdoor activities are sometimes injury prone and the outdoor environment has an element of risk leading to injuries that may require immediate first aid intervention and management before professional medical intervention is available.

The Curriculum for WAFA Certification includes Injury/ Illness Identification & Management and encompasses Bleeding Control, Sprains & Strains, Shock, Spinal, Head, Chest, Wounds, Fractures, Cold, Heat, Lightning, Altitude, Drowning, Anaphylaxis, Bites, Stings, Medical Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Response Procedures.

The Course integrates classroom instruction with practical scenario based learning spread over 32 hour, over 4 days and is taught in English and Hindi. The Certification is Internationally Valid for 2 years.
