Science Week celebrations at DPS

On a wonderful Wednesday we started officially celebrating Science Week. The day kicked off with an assembly and this year, the theme was ‘Food Science and Technology’. The anchor started off and told us the importance of food in science.

They heightened our excitement and made us inquisitive about the topic. Our respected VP ma’am Gowri Venkatesh inaugurated the logo of the year with a dramatic curtain rising. The assembly was kept interesting and informative as the students told us about thescience that goes behind some our favourite foods.

It made us start pondering about all kinds of food which had never even thought about. We were told about the process of baking a cake, making a dosa and also about our favourite food- chocolate. The assembly never got boring and we learned while having fun. There was a role on ‘fermentation’ by our friends and it was clear that the students had worked very hard on it. They talked about the history of coke and food preservation.

We were told some practical tips which we can apply in our life to preserve food healthily. Science food and technology is a very vast subject and multiple appliances are also used for preparing and eating food. To try to inform us about every aspect of [processing food, we were also told about the principle behind electrical appliances such as toasters, microwaves, etc.

The next topic was food chemistry. We were shown a beautiful ice castle and artificial volcano. Next, we were shown the process of food colouring and colour separation. All this left us very hungry. Our VP ma’am concluding the assembly with appreciating the students and teachers who worked hard for this assembly and last but not the least there was an innovative display of accessories made of food items. We were all left with a great appreciation of food and science.
