Hyderabad: GITAM Hyd Business School conducted orientation programme for the X Batch of students who have recently taken admission into MBA on Monday. “Be consistently employable throughout your career. This means that you need to constantly upgrade your skills”, said Shrinivas Khati, General Manager – HR, ER & Admin, Thermax Batcock & Wilcox Solutions Ltd, Pune.
Speaking on the occasion, Khati said that the two years of MBA are truly life-changing, and emphasised on the general skills and domain specific skills that MBA graduates should hone during this time. He dwelt at length on the mutual expectations among the students, the institute and the industry. Quoting GMAC survey results, he said that the traits companies consider most desirable from their fresh recruits are: right fit with organization’s culture, ability to work as part of a team, an ability to make an impact, leadership potential, adaptability to situations, and taking initiatives to solve problems. Khati advised the students to focus on grooming their personality apart from acquiring knowledge and skills, since MBA is a highly responsible and accountable programme.
Earlier Prof Y Lakshman Kumar, Dean & Director, GITAM Hyderabad Business School, in his welcome address explained the vision and mission of GITAM HBS at the core of which is a commitment to imparting futuristic and comprehensive education. He promised to make the programme enjoyable, and advised them to give top priority to building their character and cultivate the right attitude. Prof Lakshman Kumar spelt out the expectations of the institution from the students and their parents to ensure optimum results. He introduced the staff and faculty of GITAM HBS to the new students.
In his address, Prof A Sreeram, Director, Student Affairs, GITAM Hyderabad Campus said the management of GITAM spares no expense or effort in providing the best facilities for its students. Facilities like Skills Development Centre, Innovation Cell, Kalakriti, and Charaiveti, and sports events like Lakshya help them to showcase and improve their skills and pursue their hobbies. He advised the students to participate well in all curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, and to practice punctuality, sincerity and simplicity.
DVVSR Varma, Resident Director, GITAM Hyderabad Campus, exhorted the new students to absorb wholeheartedly what is being taught by some of the best minds in the academic and industry currently teaching at the School. Irrespective of the previous habits, they should now learn to work hard to mould successful careers.
Merit Scholarships Awarded On this occasion, Merit Scholarships were given away to MBA students who had topped in the three trimesters of I Year MBA. Each trimester, three scholarships of Rs.20,000, Rs.10,000, and Rs.5000 are awarded to top three rankers in MBA. Ms Moola Anusha, Ms Shraddha Kamat, Ms Sucharita Bengairi, Ms Simran Agarwal, and Ms Jonnalagadda Alekya bagged these scholarships.
