The ideal ratio of total cholesterol to HDL should be below 3.5 and LDL to HDL should not be more than 2.5.If B.P reading is more than 140/90 it is called hypertension which increases the risk of heart attack.
Diet
Diet should be high in sodium or low in calcium, magnesium, potassium. Alcohol, over weight and stress can cause blood pressure. Drugs can cause dizziness, fatigue, which increase harmful cholesterol and triglycerides. It is far better to avoid drugs and adopt life style changes like eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, managing stress and taking nutritional supplements, herbs .If you have hypertension it is essential that you monitor your blood pressure regularly.
Foods like garlic, flax seeds, and walnuts etc; should be consumed and regular exercise to stay healthy.
Heart Healthy diet
Plenty of vegetables, green tea, olive oil, legumes, nuts, oats, and soi foods should be given preference.
Limit your intake of refined foods, salt, sugar, and saturated fats. Fruits and vegetables help in potassium which can keep the blood pressure in correct level. Apples, carrots, citrus fruits, are especially good sources. Legumes, some grains ( barley ) are very good. Raw nuts like almonds and walnuts and healthy foods like extra virgin, olive oil keep arteries flexible. They also promote HDL cholesterol and Blood pressure low. Small handful of nuts and a tablespoon of olive oil daily are much more helpful. Flax seed oil is also good.
